Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
I still have a lot to learn and get experienced with the work.
Graduate, Townsville - 12 Aug 2024
Promotion can be a little slow at first within the company as there is a strict graduate timeline. This is good in the sense that no one is above anyone else at this graduate level. However, there is still a long wait involved before being promoted to the next level above graduate. There are many opportunities to move around in the company also into related areas, such as moving from site team to the tender team or the commercial team, if available. Being proactive will show that you are interested in more opportunities, and you will make a beneficial name for yourself.
Graduate, Perth - 07 Aug 2024
After I do my 18 months and a graduate, I will hopefully be presented with a new opportunity to further my development as a communications advisor, which is the next level above a communications graduate. But other positions may open as well.
Graduate, Brisbane - 31 Jul 2024
Time with the company is too important rather than how one shows their skills
Graduate, Melbourne - 30 Jul 2024
To move forward in my company, I have to keep learning and demonstrating that I can run and manage projects by myself. Success comes from showing initiative, developing new skills, and consistently delivering high-quality work.
Graduate, Adelaide - 30 Jul 2024
The promotion opportunities come as needed and not any sooner, so it is slow to move up the career ladder, but there is good support on the career journey as there is very limited premature promotions. However, promotions are also dependent on projects available to the company and their team requirements.
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Jul 2024
Promotion feels like it is just based on time in the industry rather than the merit of your hard work. the renumeration isnt amazing either
Graduate, Melbourne - 29 Jul 2024
There are lots of opportunities for growth in the company. It requires creativity, hardwork, dedication and efficiency.
Graduate, Perth - 29 Jul 2024
The promotion opportunities are unclear to me. It seems like you have to wait until you are 2 years post completion of studies to move up to site engineer. Then for how long you must remain as a site engineer before being promoted again I am not sure. From what I've gathered, promotions are controlled mostly by time served, rather than your capability to fulfil the requirements for the role. Moving up the ranks at this company requires obedience, persistence, loyalty, strong communication, contentment within your role.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
BMD have given me many opportunities to progress, these mainly involve representing the company at a more public level. it is good to see they recognise effort put in by their employees. i think effort and attitude are the main drivers they look for when presenting someone with new opportunities.
Graduate, Melbourne - 08 Jul 2024
clear career paths
Graduate, Townsville - 01 Dec 2023
I am satisfied with the promotion and career opportunities. My manager has spoken with me and has advised the next steps and what it looks like long term.
Graduate, Brisbane - 01 Dec 2023
Promotion process is very transparent, with each 6 months having a performance review. Setting out goals/objectives and understanding one's strengths and weaknesses. One is able to track their progress throughout the year.
Graduate, Sydney - 18 Jan 2023
Our Senior leadership team has provided us with a chart to show how the grads are going to get promoted throughout the years.
Graduate, Adelaide - 18 Jan 2023
At this point, I am still a rookie who does not know anything at all because working is so different when in Uni, and Uni does not prepare you the work you will encounter. I will do my best to complete and do my work as much as I can.
Graduate, Darwin - 18 Jan 2023
I am satisfied because I know there is opportunity to progress. I know that as the business changes my progression may change. Uncertainty can be confusing but I am ok with that.
Graduate, Melbourne - 16 Jan 2023
Lots of room for upward growth, as long as you're willing to put in the work. You do need to make connections with management, to make sure your work is visible to them.
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Jan 2023
Promotion possibilities: - Graduate Engineer - Site Engineer - Project Engineer - Senior Project Engineer - Project Manager - Senior Project Manager - Construction Manager To move up the ranks can be challenging, however very rewarding. To focus on where you are at the moment and apply yourself to your work is always a great start to getting a promotion.
Graduate, Townsville - 13 Jan 2023
My graduate contract is 18 months long, which gives me plenty of time to gain experience to be a site engineer. From there, another two-four years is required to become a project engineer. In all honesty, I am currently doing work required from a site engineer, and am starting to do tasks for a project engineer. This is encouraged by my managers if they believe I am capable, which makes things much easier to be promoted in the future
Graduate, Adelaide - 12 Jan 2023
I asked to be assessed for a promotion, and it was granted.
