This research project is being undertaken by Amber Wignall, as part of the Psychology Honours program.
The purpose of this research project is to address and understand the problem of incorrect seatbelt usage among drivers and passengers of motor vehicles in Queensland, Australia. This study will explore the prevalence (rate) of this behaviour, as well as the attitudes, beliefs, intentions, and willingness to wear one’s seatbelt incorrectly as both a driver and passenger.
Additionally, the study will inquire about your opinion, as the participant, on the effectiveness of current deterrent measures such as fines and demerit points, issued by seatbelt cameras detecting incorrect seatbelt use. As an emerging critical safety concern, the data obtained from this study aims to make a significant contribution to enhancing road safety in Australia.
By agreeing to participate in this study, you will be invited to complete a one-time online self-report survey. The survey will prompt you to respond either yes or no to some questions or using a Likert scale (e.g., strongly disagree to strongly agree) and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
